Kingdom Come
(©2010 Steve Connelly)

He’s all alone on a crowded street,
he’s ill at ease with anyone he meets.
He’s walking to Armageddon time,
he’s trying hard not to cross the line.

He never thinks about getting old,
years ago he put his life on hold.
The dream is over but he’s had his fun
and now the real work has just begun, uh-huh.

He needs his rest when the day is done,
he’s gonna sleep until
Kingdom Come, Kingdom Come,
Kingdom Come, Kingdom Come,
Kingdom Come.

He takes it hard when he reads the news,
his newspaper’s turnin’ black and blue.
It’s hard times in this modern world,
hard times tryin’ to please your girl, uh-huh.

Don’t interrupt her if she’s having fun,
she’s gonna party ‘til
Kingdom Come, Kingdom Come,
Kingdom Come, Kingdom Come,
Kingdom Come.

He never talks about his secret life,
a teenage daughter and an Asian wife.
One day she asks where her father went,
all she was told, he was Heaven sent, uh-huh.

They light a candle when the day is done,
they’re gonna wait until
Kingdom Come, Kingdom Come,
Kingdom Come, Kingdom Come,
Kingdom Come, Kingdom Come,
Kingdom Come, Kingdom Come.

Here goes a rocket to the setting sun,
it’s gonna take us all…
