The End of David Watts
(©2010 Steve Connelly/Vance Borland)
All the money in the world won’t buy you out of this
won’t take away the fear
All the voices in the howl, rattling your chains,
calling out your name.
The face you see (your new friend)
looks like Lazarus wants to say hello again.
(It’s not too late) to live and remember
(you’ve still got time), remember to live
while you’ve still got time.
All the golden pharoahs, too, and Solomon’s mines
and Rockefeller’s heart.
It’s the end of David Watts, whistling in the dark,
keeping out of sight.
The face you see (your new friend)
looks like Lazarus wants to say hello again.
(It’s not too late) to live and remember
(you’ve still got time), remember to live
while you’ve still got time.
Someone wants to talk to you,
why is that so hard to do?
What are you afraid of?
What’s happened to your love?
And all the credit that it takes to pay for your mistakes,
to keep you in the red.
You’ve gone morally insane, about to lose your mind,
one cent at a time.
This face you see (your new friend)
looks like Lazarus wants to say hello again.
(It’s not too late) to live and remember
(you’ve still got time), remember to live.
(It’s not too late) to live and remember
(you’ve still got time), remember to live
while you’ve still got time.
